Tuscan EN877 Soil is a socketless cast iron soil, waste and rainwater system made to BS EN 877. Plain-ended pipes and fittings are joined with stainless steel or ductile iron couplings, giving a slim, continuous line on a façade or in a service riser. Cast iron is non-combustible, quiet in use and very long-lived. That is why it remains the specification of choice for heritage buildings, tall stacks, and anywhere acoustic performance or fire safety matters.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes is the Tuscan EN877 Soil High Pressure Stainless Steel Coupling available in?

It is available in 50mm (HS2069), 70mm (HS3069), 100mm (HS4069), 150mm (HS6069), 200mm (HS8069).

Where do I need a high performance coupling rather than a standard one?

Where the joint could be pressurised, for example at the foot of a tall stack, in suspended drainage that can back up, or near pumped discharges. Ordinary couplings can be pushed apart under pressure; these are built to resist it.

Do I still need pipe grips with high performance couplings?

Follow the installation guidance for the pressure involved. In many cases the high performance coupling is used in place of a standard coupling plus grip.

What building types is the Cast Iron Louvre Airbrick suited to?

What building types is the Cast Iron Louvre Airbrick suited to?

The Cast Iron Louvre Airbrick suits Victorian, Edwardian, and inter-war residential and commercial properties where the louvre-pattern vent was the standard specification. It is the correct like-for-like replacement on listed buildings and conservation area properties, and suits new heritage-style construction requiring an authentic period ventilation grille.

Can the Iron Works Hit & Miss Vent be used externally?

Can the Iron Works Hit & Miss Vent be used externally?

The Antique Black cast iron version is suitable for external use. The Polished Lacquered version is best suited to interiors or sheltered external locations where the polished finish will be protected from weathering. The Polished Brass version is suited to interior and semi-exposed locations. For external applications on exposed elevations, the Antique Black finish is the recommended specification.

What paint finish should I use on cast iron guttering?

What paint finish should I use on cast iron guttering?

Linseed oil paint is the most appropriate finish for cast iron guttering on listed and historic buildings. It is breathable, flexible, and penetrating — qualities that suit the movement characteristics of cast iron through seasonal temperature changes. Tuscan Foundry Products offers a curated range of heritage linseed oil colours. For modern applications, a high-quality exterior oil-based paint system over a metal primer is also acceptable.

Satin chrome has a brushed, low-sheen finish suited to contemporary interiors, while polished chrome has a bright mirror finish. Both are available in the telescopic hand winder range at Tuscan Foundry. The choice typically depends on the existing ironmongery specification.
