Tuscan EN877 Soil is a socketless cast iron soil, waste and rainwater system made to BS EN 877. Plain-ended pipes and fittings are joined with stainless steel or ductile iron couplings, giving a slim, continuous line on a façade or in a service riser. Cast iron is non-combustible, quiet in use and very long-lived. That is why it remains the specification of choice for heritage buildings, tall stacks, and anywhere acoustic performance or fire safety matters.
A ductile iron coupling with an EPDM sealing gasket, supplied with grub screws that bite into the pipe to give electrical continuity across the joint. It clamps over two plain pipe ends or a pipe and a fitting.
Available in 7 sizes, from 50mm to 300mm. Nominal weights run from 0.7 kg (50mm) to 5.9 kg (300mm).
Typical use: Joints where earth continuity is specified, or as the standard coupling throughout a run.

The grub screws give a continuous electrical path from pipe to pipe, so the whole stack can be earth bonded. Many specifications call for it on internal stacks in commercial and public buildings.
Tighten the bolts evenly, alternating side to side, until the coupling halves meet or reach the torque in the installation guidance. Over-tightening one side first can pull the joint out of line.

The H540 measures 600mm wide x 340mm deep x 475mm high, making it well suited to substantial country houses, civic and ecclesiastical buildings.
Casting of iron is an imperfect processs. It is possible with some cast iron radiators that you will get minor imperfections in the surface finish. When radiators are painted this will reduce and over the years every additional coat of paint applied will provide a smoother more equal finish.

Traditional Express (TX) is a cast iron push-fit soil system. Socketless pipes are joined with push-fit sockets and couplings using rubber seals, so there is no caulking on site. LCC uses caulked socket-and-spigot joints and a bitumen coating. TX is quicker to install and can be painted; LCC is the closer match to an original Victorian stack.
