Eared LCC pipe is fixed through ears cast on the socket. Plain LCC pipe is fixed with holdfasts driven into the mortar joint, screw-to-wall holderbats, build-in holderbats or loose ears. Fix every length below the socket so each joint is supported. Traditional Express uses adjustable brackets.
Yes. Cast iron is the original material for external soil stacks on most period buildings, and like-for-like replacement in cast iron is usually what conservation officers expect. Check with your local planning authority whether listed building consent is needed for the works.
LCC soil pipe and fittings are available in 50mm, 65mm, 75mm, 90mm, 100mm and 150mm. Traditional Express is available in 50mm and 100mm. LCC pipe comes in 1829mm, 1219mm, 914mm and 610mm lengths, with eared and plain double socket lengths for cutting on site.
Traditional Express can be painted, including in our linseed oil finish. LCC is supplied with a black bitumen coating, which cannot be reliably overpainted with conventional paints; maintain it with a compatible bituminous paint. Where a painted soil stack is required, specify Traditional Express.
Traditional Express (TX) is a cast iron push-fit soil system. Socketless pipes are joined with push-fit sockets and couplings using rubber seals, so there is no caulking on site. LCC uses caulked socket-and-spigot joints and a bitumen coating. TX is quicker to install and can be painted; LCC is the closer match to an original Victorian stack. Our Traditional Express vs LCC guide compares the two in detail.
LCC is traditional cast iron socket-and-spigot soil pipe made to BS 416-1:1990. Each length has a socket at one end and a spigot at the other, and joints are packed with caulking cord and finished with a jointing sealant. It is supplied with a black bitumen coating and is the like-for-like choice for external soil stacks on Victorian and Edwardian buildings. See the Traditional LCC range.
