The Victorian 4 Column cast iron radiator at 485mm height (V4-48) is a low-to-mid height radiator particularly suited to under-window installation, skirting-level positions, and rooms where the wall space above the radiator is occupied by windows, shelving, or other features. The four-column profile replicates the original Victorian pattern — proportionate and period-appropriate even in a compact section count.
This variant is supplied painted — pre-finished in a colour coat, ready to install. The painted finish is ideal where the installation is going directly to completion without further decoration.
Supply and assembly: Supplied in individual sections. Available pre-assembled up to 20 sections ready for installation. Supplied as a floor-standing version with integrated feet as standard — the wall-mounted only version must be requested at time of order. The radiator is supplied with ½” connections. Valves are not included and must be purchased separately if required.
Feet positions: Up to 20 sections — 2 feet, one at each end. Odd numbers 21–39 sections — 3 feet, one at each end and one centrally. Even numbers 22–40 sections — 4 feet, one at each end and 2 evenly spaced. Wall bracket requirements increase proportionally for larger radiators.

Cast iron hopper heads from Tuscan Foundry are available in Standard Black (a factory-applied primer and topcoat finish) and Heritage Colours. A linseed oil paint finish is also available, providing a vapour-permeable, historically authentic coating that is particularly appropriate for listed buildings and conservation projects. Cast iron radiators cost no more to run than modern steel or aluminium radiators. Cast iron is a very efficient material at emitting heat, thus you have items like le creuset cast iron pans. Cast iron holds it’s heat extremly well, which means that the radiators stay warm for longer.
A hit and miss vent has a sliding plate on the back of the grille that can be opened, partially restricted, or closed entirely without removing the vent from the wall. This allows airflow to be controlled from inside the building, making it suitable for underfloor void ventilation and through-wall ventilation where adjustable airflow is needed.
The Antique Black cast iron version is suitable for external use. The Polished Lacquered version is best suited to interiors or sheltered external locations where the polished finish will be protected from weathering. The Polished Brass version is suited to interior and semi-exposed locations. For external applications on exposed elevations, the Antique Black finish is the recommended specification.
Yes. The ornamental foliate pattern was widely used in Victorian construction and is appropriate for Grade II listed buildings and conservation area properties. Its decorative character is often preferable to a plain pattern on prominent or formal elevations. We recommend confirming the pattern with your conservation officer as part of any listed building consent application.
The Cast Iron Louvre Airbrick suits Victorian, Edwardian, and inter-war residential and commercial properties where the louvre-pattern vent was the standard specification. It is the correct like-for-like replacement on listed buildings and conservation area properties, and suits new heritage-style construction requiring an authentic period ventilation grille.
Tuscan Foundry's cast iron hopper heads are available in Standard Black and Heritage Colour finishes. A linseed oil paint finish is also offered — a sustainable, vapour-permeable option particularly appropriate for listed buildings and conservation projects. All of our cast iron radiators are availbale as standard with a 1/2″ BSP (15mm) connection. We are though also able to supply many of our radiators and valves with 3/4″ BSP connections. Due to the size proportions of some radiators and valves 3/4″ connections may be more suitable.
The Iron Works Patterned Hit & Miss Vents are available in two sizes: 225mm × 82mm (single-course, suitable for standard airbrick positions) and 225mm × 150mm (double-course format). Both sizes are available in all three finishes: Antique Black, Polished Lacquered, and Polished Brass.
