The Square Pipe Plain is a socketed cast iron square downpipe without integral fixing ears. It gives a clean, uninterrupted line on the elevation and is fixed back to the wall with separate holderbats, earbands or pipe brackets positioned where the fixing suits the masonry.
Each length has a moulded socket band at the head and a plain spigot at the foot, so lengths and fittings simply drop into one another. Lengths of 1829mm (6ft), 1219mm (4ft), 914mm (3ft) and 610mm (2ft) are available, and plain pipe is also the right choice where a run has to be cut to suit an awkward height.
Plain square pipe is often found on refined Georgian and Regency facades, on buildings where fixings were built into the joints with holderbats, and wherever the existing pipework has no ears. It is also widely used on new heritage-style projects that want a crisp square profile.
All fittings in our square range are cast iron to BS 460:2002, made to the same moulded profile so pipes and fittings line up neatly on the elevation. Every fitting is supplied either in primer, ready for painting on site, or in factory black. For listed buildings and conservation areas we also offer hand-applied linseed oil paint in heritage colours, which stays breathable and flexible and is straightforward to maintain. Stocked items are usually dispatched within 5 to 7 working days; allow around 6 to 7 weeks where a linseed oil finish is specified.

Traditional Express (TX) is a cast iron push-fit soil system. Socketless pipes are joined with push-fit sockets and couplings using rubber seals, so there is no caulking on site. LCC uses caulked socket-and-spigot joints and a bitumen coating. TX is quicker to install and can be painted; LCC is the closer match to an original Victorian stack. Yes. Cast iron hopper heads are the historically correct choice for listed and period buildings, and a like-for-like cast iron replacement is generally accepted without objection by conservation officers. We manufacture to BS 460 for genuine heritage character and durability.
