The Manston No.524 is drawn to carry lettering. Its face is arranged as a raised cartouche panel, framed and stepped, with a crenellated upper edge above and a tapering skirt below — a composition intended from the outset to be read.
Dated and initialled rainwater heads are a long-established English tradition. From the seventeenth century onwards it was common to record the year of building or of a major repair, and the initials of the owner or the parish, in the lead or iron of the rainwater goods. Surviving examples are among the most useful dating evidence a building historian has, precisely because they were cast rather than written.
We cast initials, dates, monograms and simple armorial devices into this pattern to order. On a restoration it allows the new work to be honestly distinguished from the old — good conservation practice, and often welcomed by a conservation officer. On an estate or an institutional building it marks a phase of work in a way that will still be legible in a century.
Cast in solid iron to BS 460:2002, supplied in primer or black as standard, with heritage colours and traditional linseed oil finishes available on request.

Linseed oil paint is a vapour-permeable, period-appropriate finish particularly well suited to listed buildings and conservation area properties.
This opener is particularly well suited to period and heritage properties — Georgian and Victorian terraces, conservation area houses, traditional orangeries, and listed buildings where a brass finish is required to complement existing ironmongery. It is compatible with Lumen Rooflights and most timber-framed skylights.
A hit and miss vent has a sliding plate on the back of the grille that can be opened, partially restricted, or closed entirely without removing the vent from the wall. This allows airflow to be controlled from inside the building, making it suitable for underfloor void ventilation and through-wall ventilation where adjustable airflow is needed.

The School Board Airbrick suits Victorian and Edwardian institutional, civic, and residential buildings where the square-grid airbrick pattern was standard — including school buildings, civic halls, estate housing, terrace houses, and warehouses. It is also appropriate on listed buildings and conservation area properties as a like-for-like replacement for worn square-grid cast iron vents.
A hit and miss vent has a sliding plate on the reverse of the grille that can be moved to open or close the ventilation apertures. This allows airflow to be regulated without removing or replacing the grille. The vent can be fully open, partially open, or fully closed depending on ventilation requirements.

Yes — we strongly recommend painting all products before installation to ensure full coverage on every surface, which reduces long-term maintenance. Standard Premier Rainwater products are supplied in a grey metal primer with rust inhibitors and need two undercoats and one top coat (or one undercoat and two top coats) of a good quality exterior paint.
