The Trantthorpe No.86 is unlike anything else we cast. Its upper body carries deep bands of raised studs — rows of heavy round bosses encircling the head — above a smooth conical taper that funnels to the outlet.
The studding reads as riveting, and that is precisely the association it carries: the language of structural ironwork, boilerplate and engineering rather than of domestic architecture. Cast deep and repeated in courses around the full circumference, it holds shadow from every angle and gives the casting a solidity that photographs particularly well.
That makes it a specialist choice, and a very good one on the right building. Industrial heritage conversions, mills and maltings, engine and pump houses, dock and railway architecture, breweries — buildings whose original ironwork was riveted and unapologetic. It also works on robust Romanesque and Norman Revival work, where the studding sits comfortably alongside chevron and billet ornament.
On a refined domestic elevation it would be entirely wrong, and a plain pattern is the correct specification.

The Cast Iron Louvre Airbrick suits Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing, semi-detached properties, public houses, agricultural buildings, and workshop structures where the original airbrick was a louvre-face grille. The horizontal fin profile is widely found in British domestic and light industrial construction from the 1870s through to the 1950s.

All of our cast iron radiators are availbale as standard with a 1/2″ BSP (15mm) connection. We are though also able to supply many of our radiators and valves with 3/4″ BSP connections. Due to the size proportions of some radiators and valves 3/4″ connections may be more suitable.
Georgian properties typically used Half Round or ogee-style guttering, often in larger sizes to handle the roof areas of substantial period buildings. Large sand cast gutter profiles are appropriate for grander Georgian architecture, particularly country houses, institutions, and formal terraces. If the original guttering has been lost or damaged, a site survey can establish the most appropriate profile from the building
Our cast iron hopper heads are available in a standard primed and black-painted finish, ready for on-site topcoats. Heritage colour finishes and factory-applied linseed oil paint are available on request. Linseed oil paint is a vapour-permeable, period-appropriate finish particularly well suited to listed buildings and conservation area properties.
