The Abbey No.519 takes its character from its plan. Rather than a plain square box, the body is canted — the corners are cut back so the casting reads as a faceted, near-octagonal form.
A firmly moulded rim runs around the top. Beneath it the faceted body swells outward before drawing in through a bellied lower section to the outlet, giving the casting a full, rounded profile quite unlike the straight tapers elsewhere in the range. The result is a head that catches light on several planes at once and never presents a flat, dead face to the elevation.
The canted plan has a practical origin. Faceting stiffens a casting of this size against the thermal movement and impact that rainwater goods take, and it reduces the flat area where standing debris collects in the corners. On buildings where hoppers are high and rarely cleared, that is a genuine maintenance benefit rather than a styling choice.
It sits comfortably on ecclesiastical and institutional buildings, on Gothic Revival and Arts and Crafts work, and on any elevation where the architecture itself uses chamfers, splays or canted bays and a square hopper would sit at odds with it.
Cast in solid iron to BS 460:2002 and supplied in primer or black as standard, with heritage colours and traditional linseed oil finishes available on request. Linseed oil paint is particularly appropriate on listed fabric, where breathability and ease of future maintenance matter more than film hardness.

The Polished Lacquered finish suits buildings where period ironwork was finished bright rather than painted — formal entrance elevations, listed properties, and settings where the grille contributes to the decorative programme of the facade. It is appropriate for conservation specifications and high-specification heritage new build.
The H460 accepts round pipe connections in 65mm, 75mm, and 100mm diameters. Square pipe connections are available in 75×75mm, 100×100mm, and 125×125mm. Rectangular connections include 100×75mm, 125×100mm, and 150×100mm options. Connection type is selected at the point of order.
Yes. Cast iron hopper heads are the historically correct choice for listed and period buildings, and a like-for-like cast iron replacement is generally accepted without objection by conservation officers. We manufacture to BS 460 for genuine heritage character and durability.

Yes. Cast iron hopper heads are the historically appropriate choice for listed buildings, and are generally preferred by conservation officers and local planning authorities over modern plastic alternatives. Tuscan Foundry cast iron hopper heads are manufactured in solid grey iron and are suitable for use on listed buildings and within conservation areas. A linseed oil finish is also available, which is particularly appropriate for sensitive heritage projects.
