The Marksham No.108 is a wide, low casting with the lightest of top mouldings — a pattern for elevations where the hopper needs to be present but not noticed.
The body is broad and shallow, with a slim raised moulding running along the top edge and plain faces beneath. A cast lug takes the side fixing and the outlet drops from the underside. The proportions do the work: width provides the collecting capacity that depth would otherwise supply, and the low profile keeps the casting clear of mouldings above and below.
That combination is genuinely useful. On a terrace with a strong band course, on a building with a shallow eaves overhang, or on any elevation where a deep head would cut across an existing horizontal line, this is often the only pattern that fits without compromise.
It suits Georgian and Victorian terraces, estate housing, institutional buildings and conservation area schemes where restraint is the brief.

In most cases, replacing like-for-like cast iron guttering on a listed building does not require Listed Building Consent (LBC), provided the replacement matches the existing profile, material, and finish exactly. However, any change of material away from cast iron will almost always require consent. We recommend consulting your local conservation officer before proceeding, and we can provide specification documentation to support your application if required.

Yes. Cast iron hopper heads are the historically correct choice for listed and period buildings, and a like-for-like cast iron replacement is generally accepted without objection by conservation officers. We manufacture to BS 460 for genuine heritage character and durability.
Casting of iron is an imperfect processs. It is possible with some cast iron radiators that you will get minor imperfections in the surface finish. When radiators are painted this will reduce and over the years every additional coat of paint applied will provide a smoother more equal finish.
