U9 Black Silicone is a low-modulus black silicone sealant formulated for jointing cast iron gutters and pipes. Low-modulus silicone remains flexible after curing, accommodating the thermal expansion and contraction that cast iron guttering undergoes through temperature cycles across the year without the joint cracking or losing adhesion. This flexibility makes it significantly more durable than standard frame or construction silicones on cast iron joints.
Supplied in black to match the standard factory black finish of cast iron gutters and pipes. Compatible with all standard cast iron gutter profiles: common half round, beaded half round, deep half round, moulded ogee, G46 moulded ogee, Notts OG, and No.46 moulded. In most cases, replacing like-for-like cast iron guttering on a listed building does not require Listed Building Consent (LBC), provided the replacement matches the existing profile, material, and finish exactly. However, any change of material away from cast iron will almost always require consent. We recommend consulting your local conservation officer before proceeding, and we can provide specification documentation to support your application if required.
Yes. A polished brass finish is historically appropriate for period buildings and is generally acceptable to conservation officers for listed building projects. If you are unsure about the specification requirements for your project, we are happy to advise — call 0333 987 4452.
The Antique Black cast iron version is suitable for external use. The Polished Lacquered version is best suited to interiors or sheltered external locations where the polished finish will be protected from weathering. The Polished Brass version is suited to interior and semi-exposed locations. For external applications on exposed elevations, the Antique Black finish is the recommended specification.
