The Rectangular Pipe Ornamental Earband Pattern H is a decorative cast iron collar for rectangular downpipes with a moulded profile specific to the H pattern. Specified on conservation and listed building projects where Pattern H is the correct match for the original ornamental earbands on the building, or where the conservation specification requires this pattern to be reinstated as part of a facade restoration.
Ornamental pipe earbands in patterns including H were commonly used as a design feature on Victorian and Edwardian civic architecture, large churches, country houses, and formal commercial buildings where the downpipe run was treated as an architectural element of the facade. Tuscan Foundry's cast iron hopper heads are available in Standard Black and Heritage Colour finishes. A linseed oil paint finish is also offered — a sustainable, vapour-permeable option particularly appropriate for listed buildings and conservation projects. The Ornamental Airbrick (OAB) is available in three sizes: 225mm × 75mm (2.8kg), 225mm × 150mm (4.1kg), and 225mm × 225mm (5.8kg). All sizes have a uniform depth of 75mm, making them consistent to install across a subfloor ventilation course.
The H529 measures 430mm wide x 290mm deep x 540mm high, making it well suited to multi-storey Georgian and Victorian townhouses with a longer fall to the outlet.

As well as being easier to produce, the material enabled eaves gutters to be installed more simply, since lead could only be used in this location as a lining for timber gutters. Many modern materials focus on replicating the appearance of cast iron but those materials can vary rarely offer any of the benefits. There is no doubt that the initial cost of many modern materials is less than cast iron but you might be surprised to know that over its lifespan, cast iron will cost around a third of plastic.
This opener is particularly well suited to period and heritage properties — Georgian and Victorian terraces, conservation area houses, traditional orangeries, and listed buildings where a brass finish is required to complement existing ironmongery. It is compatible with Lumen Rooflights and most timber-framed skylights.
The in-house Premier Extra coating is formulated for a life expectancy of around 10 years under normal weather conditions, provided any impact damage or surface scuffing is made good promptly. Coastal locations or higher pollution levels can shorten this, so it's worth asking your local stockist or paint manufacturer for site-specific advice.
