The Ludlow No.527 is the most heavily modelled casting in our ornamental range, and the pattern to reach for when the building will carry it.
A foliate crest rises above the rim — scrolled, deeply undercut leafwork that breaks the top line rather than closing it flat. Beneath, the body is worked across its full face with interlaced ornament, the surface never left plain, before drawing down through a decorated skirt to the outlet. There is more relief in this casting than in anything else we hold as a standard pattern, and it needs to be seen with a raking light to be properly appreciated.
This is a High Victorian and Gothic Revival pattern. It belongs on churches and chapels, on the better class of Victorian institutional building, on estate architecture where the client spent money at high level, and on restoration schemes where photographic or physical evidence shows the original rainwater goods were richly decorated. It is far too much for a modest elevation.
Deep relief has maintenance implications worth understanding at specification stage. Heavily undercut ornament holds moisture and debris in a way that flat surfaces do not, so preparation and coating matter more here than on a plain pattern. Traditional linseed oil paint suits these castings particularly well: it penetrates rather than bridging, and it can be maintained by overcoating rather than stripping.
Cast in solid iron to BS 460:2002 and supplied in primer or black as standard, with heritage colours and linseed oil finishes available on request.

All of our cast iron radiators are availbale as standard with a 1/2″ BSP (15mm) connection. We are though also able to supply many of our radiators and valves with 3/4″ BSP connections. Due to the size proportions of some radiators and valves 3/4″ connections may be more suitable.

The Ornamental Airbrick (OAB) is available in three sizes: 225mm × 75mm (2.8kg), 225mm × 150mm (4.1kg), and 225mm × 225mm (5.8kg). All sizes have a uniform depth of 75mm, making them consistent to install across a subfloor ventilation course.
