The Temple No.523 is the wide, low companion to the Manston: a long rectangular casting with a broad flat face designed to take cast lettering, flanked by moulded end panels and mounted on an integral back plate.
The proportions are what make it different. Where the Manston concentrates its lettering in an upright cartouche, the Temple spreads it across a horizontal field — better suited to a longer inscription, a full date, or paired initials with a device between them. The integral back plate means the head sits flat and true against the wall without separate brackets, which matters on rubble or uneven masonry where a bracketed head would need packing.
Lettering is cast, not applied, so it will not lift or weather off. Picked out in gold or a contrasting colour against a black or heritage ground, it becomes a deliberate feature of the elevation rather than a detail only visible close to.
It suits estate buildings, almshouses, schools, churches and institutional work, and any restoration where a phase of work deserves to be recorded permanently.
Cast in solid iron to BS 460:2002, supplied in primer or black as standard, with heritage colours and traditional linseed oil finishes available on request.

The in-house Premier Extra coating is formulated for a life expectancy of around 10 years under normal weather conditions, provided any impact damage or surface scuffing is made good promptly. Coastal locations or higher pollution levels can shorten this, so it's worth asking your local stockist or paint manufacturer for site-specific advice.
Yes. Churches and ecclesiastical buildings are one of our most common project types. We regularly supply large sand cast gutters, rectangular and square downpipes, and bespoke hopper heads for church restorations. Many churches have non-standard profiles that require copy casting. We work directly with architects, church fabric advisors, and quinquennial inspection surveyors. Historic England and many Diocesan Advisory Committees specify cast iron as the appropriate material for listed ecclesiastical buildings.
The H460 is well suited to Georgian, Regency, and Victorian buildings where a plain, undecorated rectangular hopper is the appropriate choice — particularly listed properties, conservation area buildings, and institutional or commercial buildings in historic town centres. Its clean, restrained form makes it equally appropriate on modern heritage-style construction where period accuracy is required without ornamental detail.
Cast iron hopper heads from Tuscan Foundry are available in Standard Black (a factory-applied primer and topcoat finish) and Heritage Colours. A linseed oil paint finish is also available, providing a vapour-permeable, historically authentic coating that is particularly appropriate for listed buildings and conservation projects. The Antique Black cast iron version is suitable for external use. The Polished Lacquered version is best suited to interiors or sheltered external locations where the polished finish will be protected from weathering. The Polished Brass version is suited to interior and semi-exposed locations. For external applications on exposed elevations, the Antique Black finish is the recommended specification.
Available in two sizes: 225mm x 82mm (single airbrick course height) and 225mm x 150mm (double course height). Both sizes fit standard brick coursing positions and install flush into the wall face.
