The Elmsby No.169 is a wide head with a gently bowed front and a side outlet — drawn for the positions where a conventional hopper simply cannot be made to work.
The front face curves outward in a shallow bow rather than sloping flat, which adds capacity without adding projection and softens the casting against the wall. The outlet is taken from the side, so the downpipe can be led away laterally before dropping.
That side discharge is the reason to specify it. On historic buildings the pipe frequently cannot fall straight — a plinth, a buttress, a bay, a string course or a boundary intervenes — and the usual solution is a stack of offsets below the hopper, each one a joint exposed to weather and a place for debris to lodge. Taking the discharge sideways at the head itself removes that problem at source.
It suits period domestic and estate buildings, courtyards and passages, and any elevation where the downpipe route is constrained.
Cast in solid iron to BS 460:2002, supplied in primer or black as standard, with heritage colours and traditional linseed oil finishes available on request.

Our cast iron hopper heads are available in a standard primed and black-painted finish, ready for on-site topcoats. Heritage colour finishes and factory-applied linseed oil paint are available on request. Linseed oil paint is a vapour-permeable, period-appropriate finish particularly well suited to listed buildings and conservation area properties.
Yes. Cast iron rainwater goods are widely accepted by conservation officers and historic environment bodies as the appropriate material for listed buildings. Tuscan Foundry's hopper heads are manufactured in solid cast iron to BS 460 specification and are suitable for all listed building grades. A linseed oil paint finish is also available, which is particularly appropriate for conservation projects.

Available in polished brass, satin chrome, and polished chrome, these openers allow controlled ventilation from a fixed handle position without requiring a pole. The 150mm or 250mm size is typically appropriate for standard-height kitchen rooflights.
The H532 measures 560mm wide x 290mm deep x 305mm high, making it well suited to a broad, low-profile design suited to substantial roofs and box gutters on period commercial and civic buildings.
The right size depends on the width of your gutter run and the volume of water you need to collect. The Strayton H42A is available in four widths: 305mm (12"), 355mm (14"), 457mm (18"), and 610mm (24"). As a general guide, wider hoppers suit larger roof areas and heavier rainfall zones. Our brackets are more commonly used on cast iron rainwater systems. Unlike plastic, cast iron is heavy and the weight keeps the gutter in position. As such our brackets do not normally have retaining clips which could lead to plastic or lightweight gutters blowing out of the bracket. The profile of your gutter should match that of our bracket but without the weight to keep it in place you may well encounter problems in bad weather.
Our cast iron airbricks are supplied in primed finish, ready for on-site painting. This allows them to be finished to match the existing ironwork or masonry colour of the building. Standard black gloss is the most common finish for conservation and heritage projects.
