Ornamental earbands are decorative cast iron collars that fit around plain LCC soil pipe at the socket, giving the pipe a set of fixing ears and a period detail in one.

The earband is fixed to the wall through its ears, so plain soil pipe gains the fixing of an eared pipe without changing the pipe itself. Nine patterns are available, types A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J and K, which helps match a surviving historic earband as closely as possible.

Earbands are used to replicate original ornamental fixings on Victorian civic and institutional buildings, villas and terraces, and to give a new soil stack the same character as the rainwater pipes beside it. If you need to match an existing earband, send photographs with dimensions and we will advise on the closest pattern.

Sizes: 50mm (2″), 65mm (2½″), 75mm (3″), 90mm (3½″), 100mm (4″) and 150mm (6″). Patterns: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J and K.

Cast iron to BS 416-1:1990, supplied with a black bitumen coating as standard. Bitumen cannot be reliably overpainted; where the stack is to be painted, ask about our Traditional Express push-fit system.

Suitable for listed buildings and conservation area work. For specification advice, a full schedule or a quotation, call 0333 987 4452 or use the contact form.

What is LCC cast iron soil pipe?

What is LCC cast iron soil pipe?

LCC is traditional cast iron socket-and-spigot soil pipe made to BS 416-1:1990. Each length has a socket at one end and a spigot at the other, and joints are packed with caulking cord and finished with a jointing sealant. It is supplied with a black bitumen coating and is the like-for-like choice for external soil stacks on Victorian and Edwardian buildings. See the Traditional LCC range.

What is the difference between Traditional Express and LCC soil pipe?

What is the difference between Traditional Express and LCC soil pipe?

Traditional Express (TX) is a cast iron push-fit soil system. Socketless pipes are joined with push-fit sockets and couplings using rubber seals, so there is no caulking on site. LCC uses caulked socket-and-spigot joints and a bitumen coating. TX is quicker to install and can be painted; LCC is the closer match to an original Victorian stack. Our Traditional Express vs LCC guide compares the two in detail.

Can cast iron soil pipe be painted?

Can cast iron soil pipe be painted?

Traditional Express can be painted, including in our linseed oil finish. LCC is supplied with a black bitumen coating, which cannot be reliably overpainted with conventional paints; maintain it with a compatible bituminous paint. Where a painted soil stack is required, specify Traditional Express.

What sizes of cast iron soil pipe do you supply?

What sizes of cast iron soil pipe do you supply?

LCC soil pipe and fittings are available in 50mm, 65mm, 75mm, 90mm, 100mm and 150mm. Traditional Express is available in 50mm and 100mm. LCC pipe comes in 1829mm, 1219mm, 914mm and 610mm lengths, with eared and plain double socket lengths for cutting on site.

Is cast iron soil pipe suitable for listed buildings?

Is cast iron soil pipe suitable for listed buildings?

Yes. Cast iron is the original material for external soil stacks on most period buildings, and like-for-like replacement in cast iron is usually what conservation officers expect. Check with your local planning authority whether listed building consent is needed for the works.

How is cast iron soil pipe fixed to the wall?

How is cast iron soil pipe fixed to the wall?

Eared LCC pipe is fixed through ears cast on the socket. Plain LCC pipe is fixed with holdfasts driven into the mortar joint, screw-to-wall holderbats, build-in holderbats or loose ears. Fix every length below the socket so each joint is supported. Traditional Express uses adjustable brackets.
