The Rectangular Box Cast Iron Hopper Head Plain No.46 is a clean-lined, utilitarian rainwater head produced in solid cast iron — the kind of component that does its job without drawing attention to itself. Where many hopper heads rely on ornamental detail, the H460 takes a different approach: precise, architectural form with no surface decoration, allowing it to read as part of the building fabric rather than an applied feature.
In its smaller variant — 255mm wide by 178mm deep and 178mm high — the H460 suits medium-capacity drainage runs on Georgian and Regency facades, town houses, and commercial buildings in conservation areas. The larger size, at 305mm wide by 250mm deep and 200mm high, is appropriate for higher-volume applications on institutional buildings, schools, or country houses where a plain rectangular form is required but scale demands a more substantial unit.
The stepped, projecting rim gives the hopper a degree of classical authority without reaching for overt decoration. The straight-walled body reads confidently against dressed stonework, brick, and render alike. For specifiers working on listed buildings where the brief demands authenticity but restraint, this is a reliable and appropriate choice.
Manufactured in the UK to BS 460 specification. Available in Standard Black and Heritage Colour finishes, including a linseed oil option for conservation and listed building projects. Connection options are available for round, square, and rectangular downpipes across a range of standard sizes.

The Antique Black finish suits Victorian, Edwardian, and inter-war buildings where ventilation ironwork was painted rather than polished — estate houses, terrace housing, civic buildings, and rural properties. It is also correct for listed buildings and conservation area properties requiring like-for-like replacement of original ornamental cast iron vents.
Our brackets are more commonly used on cast iron rainwater systems. Unlike plastic, cast iron is heavy and the weight keeps the gutter in position. As such our brackets do not normally have retaining clips which could lead to plastic or lightweight gutters blowing out of the bracket. The profile of your gutter should match that of our bracket but without the weight to keep it in place you may well encounter problems in bad weather.
Yes. Cast iron hopper heads are the historically appropriate choice for listed buildings, and are generally preferred by conservation officers and local planning authorities over modern plastic alternatives. Tuscan Foundry cast iron hopper heads are manufactured in solid grey iron and are suitable for use on listed buildings and within conservation areas. A linseed oil finish is also available, which is particularly appropriate for sensitive heritage projects.
The Pultney Tapered Hopper Head is well suited to Georgian and Regency townhouses, Victorian terraces, rural farmhouses, barns, and functional estate buildings where a plain, period-correct hopper is the appropriate specification. It also works well on new heritage-style construction. Its unfussy, chamfered form makes it a versatile choice across a wide range of traditional building types.
The louvre face provides directional airflow and offers some resistance to driven rain entering the subfloor void, making it a practical choice for exposed elevations or properties in areas with significant prevailing wind and rainfall. The square-grid (school board) pattern offers a larger open ventilation area but less weather protection.

The School Board Airbrick is suited to Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing, mid-century school buildings, civic halls, public baths, and converted institutional buildings. Its plain square-grid face matches the utilitarian aesthetic of late-Victorian construction and is also appropriate for new heritage-style builds in conservation areas.
Our cast iron airbricks are available in three standard sizes: 225mm × 75mm (single course), 225mm × 150mm (double course), and 225mm × 225mm (square format). These correspond to the standard airbrick positions used in Victorian and Edwardian brickwork. Each size is available across the School Board, Louvre, and Ornamental pattern ranges.
