The Rectangular Access Pipe is a cast iron rectangular downpipe section with an integral hinged access door, allowing the inside of the pipe to be inspected and cleared without dismantling the run. Essential on any rectangular downpipe installation where blockages may occur — on buildings with trees nearby, on runs discharging from flat roofs, or on systems with debris-prone guttering above.
Specified on listed buildings and heritage conservation projects where regular maintenance access to the downpipe run is required. The access door allows a rodding tool or cleaning equipment to be inserted without the disruption and risk of removing pipe sections from a historic masonry facade. In most cases, replacing like-for-like cast iron guttering on a listed building does not require Listed Building Consent (LBC), provided the replacement matches the existing profile, material, and finish exactly. However, any change of material away from cast iron will almost always require consent. We recommend consulting your local conservation officer before proceeding, and we can provide specification documentation to support your application if required.
