Bespoke and copy cast iron rainwater goods typically have a lead time of 12 to 14 weeks from order confirmation. This covers pattern-making, casting, finishing, and quality inspection. Stock items are typically despatched within 5 to 7 working days, and non-stock standard profiles within 7 to 10 working days. We always recommend confirming lead times at enquiry stage so your project programme is not affected.
The Calnethorpe is designed for formal classical and Georgian elevations where scale and material authenticity matter — large townhouses, country houses, manor houses, and institutional buildings. It is also widely specified for new-build heritage projects where cast iron rainwater goods are required to conservation standard.
The right size depends on the width of your gutter run and the volume of water you need to collect. The Strayton H42A is available in four widths: 305mm (12"), 355mm (14"), 457mm (18"), and 610mm (24"). As a general guide, wider hoppers suit larger roof areas and heavier rainfall zones. Half round gutter has a simple semicircular profile and is the most widely used pattern across all building types and periods. Ogee (OG) gutter has an S-shaped decorative profile, historically associated with Victorian and Edwardian properties. Moulded ogee profiles, such as the G46 and Regent No.16, have a more elaborate cross-section with additional mouldings and are typically found on larger or more architecturally significant buildings. The correct choice depends on what is already present on the building and any requirements set by a conservation officer.

Our cast iron hopper heads are available with 65mm, 75mm and 100mm round outlets, 75mm, 100mm and 125mm square outlets, and 100x75mm, 125x100mm and 150x125mm rectangular outlets, to match the downpipe already on site or specified for the project.
The Antique Black cast iron version is suitable for external use. The Polished Lacquered version is best suited to interiors or sheltered external locations where the polished finish will be protected from weathering. The Polished Brass version is suited to interior and semi-exposed locations. For external applications on exposed elevations, the Antique Black finish is the recommended specification.
The Polished Lacquered finish suits buildings where period ironwork was finished bright rather than painted — formal entrance elevations, listed properties, and settings where the grille contributes to the decorative programme of the facade. It is appropriate for conservation specifications and high-specification heritage new build.
