John Coward Architects
John Coward Architects is a RIBA Chartered practice based in Cartmel in the Lake District, established in 1991. Its work covers new homes and extensions, commercial commissions, and the conservation and alteration of listed and historic buildings, including ecclesiastical projects. The practice states that its accredited conservation architects work on houses, farm buildings, churches and cathedrals, with conservation work starting from an understanding of how the existing building was made, what should be kept and repaired, and where alteration, extension or a new use is possible. New-build and conversion work draws on local materials such as slate, larch, lime render and oak. The studio is a small team, and the same people handle site visits, drawings and detailing through to handover.
