Historic Metalwork Conservation Company
Historic Metalwork Conservation Company was set up in late 2011 by Peter Meehan, a conservator with around 40 years’ experience of historic metalwork, and is based at Much Wenlock in Shropshire. It advises on the care and preservation of heritage metalwork, particularly historic ironwork, and carries out small-scale conservation. Services include condition and conservation reports, specifications, analysis of historic paint samples, leaf gilding, maintenance programmes, budgets and the management of conservation contractors. Peter Meehan previously worked as a director of an architectural and engineering ironwork restoration firm, and earlier at the Museum of London, the British Museum and the Science Museum. Work referenced includes Jean Tijou’s Golden Gates at Burghley House, the Dovercourt lighthouses, a Macfarlane lamp post in Leeds and Skidmore transept screens at Daylesford church. He states he became an accredited member of the Institute of Conservation in 2013.
