The Round Pipe Screw-to-Wall Holderbat is a cast iron bracket for fixing plain (non-eared) round cast iron downpipe. A short stem carries a two-part ring that bolts together around the pipe at both ears, and a flat back plate screws to the wall through a fixing hole at each end.

The split ring clamps the pipe itself rather than relying on ears or a socket lug, so plain pipe and fittings can be fixed wherever the run needs support. Fit a holderbat below the socket of each length so that the joint carries the load, with additional fixings at offsets, branches and on tall elevations. The stem holds the pipe clear of the wall face, leaving room to paint behind it and letting air circulate around the casting.

Holderbats are the traditional answer where a holdfast cannot be driven: where mortar joints are too narrow, too soft or in the wrong place, on rendered, flint or ashlar elevations, and where pipework may need to come down for maintenance or redecoration. Because the fixing is made with screws rather than driven into the joint, it is easily reversed and kinder to historic masonry.

Sizes: 65mm (2½″), 75mm (3″) and 100mm (4″) diameter.

Finishes: supplied primed, ready for painting on site to match the pipework, or factory painted black.

Lead time: made to order, normally 14 days.

Supplied with zinc-plated bolts and nuts to close the ring. Wall screws are not included; select screws and plugs to suit the substrate.

Suitable for listed buildings and conservation area work. For specification advice, a full schedule or a quotation, call 0333 987 4452 or use the contact form.

What is the difference between satin chrome and polished chrome rooflight openers?

What is the difference between satin chrome and polished chrome rooflight openers?

Satin chrome has a brushed, low-sheen finish suited to contemporary interiors, while polished chrome has a bright mirror finish. Both are available in the telescopic hand winder range at Tuscan Foundry. The choice typically depends on the existing ironmongery specification.

What finishes are available on your cast iron hopper heads?

What finishes are available on your cast iron hopper heads?

Hopper heads are supplied in red oxide primer ready for on-site painting, or pre-finished in black. A full range of Heritage Colours in traditional linseed oil paint is also available on request — please contact us for the swatch chart.

Do cast iron radiators work with heat pumps?

Do cast iron radiators work with heat pumps?

Yes, provided they are sized for the lower water temperature. Outputs are published at ΔT50; at ΔT30 a section gives about half that, so heat pump systems usually need more sections or a deeper pattern. We can prepare a radiator schedule at your heat pump design temperature.

Is a cast iron hopper head suitable for use on a listed building?

Is a cast iron hopper head suitable for use on a listed building?

Yes. Cast iron hopper heads are the historically correct choice for listed and period buildings, and a like-for-like cast iron replacement is generally accepted without objection by conservation officers. We manufacture to BS 460 for genuine heritage character and durability.

Can you replicate a cast iron gutter or downpipe profile that is no longer manufactured?

Can you replicate a cast iron gutter or downpipe profile that is no longer manufactured?

Yes. Bespoke copy casting is a core service at Tuscan Foundry Products. We can replicate any cast iron gutter, downpipe, hopper head, or fitting from drawings, detailed photographs, or a physical sample or surviving section. Each commission is assessed individually. Lead time is typically 12 to 14 weeks, and quantities as low as a single piece can be considered depending on pattern-making costs.

What is the difference between half round, ogee, and moulded ogee guttering?

What is the difference between half round, ogee, and moulded ogee guttering?

Half round gutter has a simple semicircular profile and is the most widely used pattern across all building types and periods. Ogee (OG) gutter has an S-shaped decorative profile, historically associated with Victorian and Edwardian properties. Moulded ogee profiles, such as the G46 and Regent No.16, have a more elaborate cross-section with additional mouldings and are typically found on larger or more architecturally significant buildings. The correct choice depends on what is already present on the building and any requirements set by a conservation officer.
