The physical properties of cast iron are sustained throughout its working life, so with proper maintenance we'd expect our gutters and pipes to last over 100 years under normal conditions.
The Pultney Tapered Hopper Head is well suited to Georgian and Regency townhouses, Victorian terraces, rural farmhouses, barns, and functional estate buildings where a plain, period-correct hopper is the appropriate specification. It also works well on new heritage-style construction. Its unfussy, chamfered form makes it a versatile choice across a wide range of traditional building types.
Half round gutter has a simple semicircular profile and is the most widely used pattern across all building types and periods. Ogee (OG) gutter has an S-shaped decorative profile, historically associated with Victorian and Edwardian properties. Moulded ogee profiles, such as the G46 and Regent No.16, have a more elaborate cross-section with additional mouldings and are typically found on larger or more architecturally significant buildings. The correct choice depends on what is already present on the building and any requirements set by a conservation officer.
Tuscan Foundry's cast iron hopper heads are available in Standard Black and Heritage Colour finishes. A linseed oil paint finish is also offered — a sustainable, vapour-permeable option particularly appropriate for listed buildings and conservation projects. Hopper heads are supplied in red oxide primer ready for on-site painting, or pre-finished in black. A full range of Heritage Colours in traditional linseed oil paint is also available on request — please contact us for the swatch chart.

The Gothic foliate tracery design of the Ornamental Airbrick provides a good free-flow ventilation area relative to its face size. The open area is comparable to other standard cast iron airbrick patterns. The visual density of the pattern at a distance reads as solid ironwork, which suits formal and decorative elevations without compromising subfloor ventilation effectiveness.

Decorative cast iron and brass ventilation grilles of this pattern were widely used in Victorian and Edwardian buildings, and like-for-like replacements are generally accepted by conservation officers for listed building works. We can provide product specifications and material details to support listed building consent applications if required.
