The eared anti-splash shoe is a cast iron downpipe shoe with an extended lip that turns the discharge downward, reducing splashback onto walls, plinths and paving.
A standard shoe throws water forward. Where it discharges onto a hard surface close to the wall, much of that water rebounds onto the masonry. The anti-splash pattern controls the flow at the outlet. Cast ears fix the shoe directly to the wall on bobbins and pipe nails, matching an eared pipe run.
Use it where downpipes discharge onto paving, steps or a hard yard, beside doorways and paths, and on solid-walled buildings where repeated splashback is wetting lime mortar and plinth stonework. A plain (non-eared) version is also available.

BS 460:2002 is the British Standard governing cast iron rainwater goods — gutters, pipes, and fittings. It sets the dimensional tolerances, materials, and performance requirements a component must meet, so that joints seal, sections align, and the system performs as a whole rather than as isolated parts. All Tuscan Foundry Products components are manufactured to comply with BS 460:2002, which is worth citing directly in specification documents and listed building consent applications. The same manufacturing standard applies to bespoke and copy-cast work, even where the profile itself isn't from our standard range.
Linseed oil paint is the most appropriate finish for cast iron guttering on listed and historic buildings. It is breathable, flexible, and penetrating — qualities that suit the movement characteristics of cast iron through seasonal temperature changes. Tuscan Foundry Products offers a curated range of heritage linseed oil colours. For modern applications, a high-quality exterior oil-based paint system over a metal primer is also acceptable.

The H1 is available to accept round pipe connections in 65mm, 75mm, 100mm, and 150mm diameters. The 65mm and 75mm variants measure 305mm wide by 197mm deep and 210mm high. Yes. Cast iron airbricks are the appropriate material for listed buildings and conservation area properties where the original ventilation grilles were cast iron. They maintain the character and material authenticity required by most conservation officers and listed building consent conditions. We recommend confirming the specific pattern with your conservation officer before ordering.
