The Association for Industrial Archaeology, established in 1973, is the national champion for industrial archaeology and heritage. It engages with national and international bodies on legislation, planning policy and funding, including through the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Industrial Heritage, and gives financial support to the Industrial Heritage Support Officer. The Association publishes Industrial Archaeology Review, IA News and regional gazetteers, holds annual conferences and workshops, operates restoration grant schemes for industrial heritage assets, and runs awards recognising excellence in the study and promotion of the subject. It also engages with local planning authorities to see the value of industrial heritage recognised in planning decisions.
