Stuart Viggers Master Thatchers Ltd

Stuart Viggers Master Thatchers Ltd is based in Banbury and was formed in 2003. Stuart began thatching in 1989, completed a four-year apprenticeship and then spent twelve years as a sub-contractor on a range of historic buildings. The firm works in combed wheat reed and water reed, carrying out rethatching, ridging and netting, and supports projects from the outset with advice on planning consents, material choice, structural and carpentry issues, chimney rebuilding, fire protection and detection, and planned or emergency repairs. It has worked for and on behalf of the National Trust and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, and recently replaced the full roof of a 17th-century cottage at Hinton-in-the-Hedges. Each job is assessed against local conservation guidance.
