Matthew Clay Architects
Matthew Clay Architects is a RIBA Chartered Practice established in 2012 and based in Corsham, Wiltshire, on the edge of the Cotswolds. It describes its work as contemporary design that works sensitively with historic fabric, and its projects include listed building alterations, barn conversions, bespoke houses and new builds, and educational and recreational buildings. The practice states that its team is listed on the RIBA Conservation Register and that it has worked on a range of listed buildings, adapting historic structures for new uses while respecting their established character. It places weight on local vernacular, traditional materials used in contemporary ways, careful detailing and a fabric-first approach to energy performance. Recent work noted on the site includes a planning submission for a Bristol hotel within the City and Queen Square Conservation Area. Projects are undertaken in Bath, London, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, the Lake District and elsewhere.
