Dartmoor Thatch

Dartmoor Thatch is run by Adam Hyne from Moretonhampstead and works across Dartmoor and most of Devon. Adam served a five-year apprenticeship before starting the business in 1993 and has more than 35 years in the trade. Core work covers rethatching in water reed and combed wheat reed, new thatch on new builds and extensions, ridging from plain flush to patterned block designs, and repairs ranging from bird damage to larger patching. Smaller jobs such as porches and individual ridges are also taken on. The firm provides insurance reports, pre-purchase surveys and annual inspections, along with carpentry, leadwork, fire barrier installation, external chimney inspections and advice on roof timbers and listed building requirements. Past work includes a 400-year-old house and a pair of farm barns. Adam states he is a member of the Devon and Cornwall Master Thatchers Association and the National Society of Master Thatchers.
