Brad Young Master Thatcher

Brad Young is a second-generation thatcher based in the Salisbury area with more than 30 years in the trade, having learned from his father before working with him full time from 1990. He thatches in wheat straw and water reed, buying Wiltshire-grown wheat straw from the same farm near Bath for over 25 years. Work ranges from bird tables and porches to complete stripping back to the timbers and rethatching, including conservation work and listed buildings. Recent jobs shown include a full rethatch and porch at Figheldean, a double cottage at Winterbourne Dauntsey, a raised ridge at Wilton and a new roof after tree damage at Winterslow. He covers Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset, offers free estimates, and states he is a full member of the National Society of Master Thatchers.
