BAFRA, the British Antique Furniture Restorers’ Association, is a nationwide body of craftsmen and women engaged in the conservation, repair and restoration of antique furniture. Every member runs an established business, has been assessed and vetted, holds appropriate insurance and has at least five years’ professional experience, the average being more than twenty. Members are expected to keep up continuing professional development, and the association runs a complaints mediation service. Specialisms among members include period furniture, marquetry and parquetry, carving, gilding, traditional upholstery, lock and key restoration and rug conservation.
