Aldershaw Handmade Tiles makes clay tiles by hand at Pokehold Wood, Sedlescombe, on a 33-acre site of ancient woodland near Battle. Most products use Wadhurst clay from the company’s own pit, fired to six colours that match most roofs in the region. The roof range covers peg and nib tiles, Kent peg tiles, oast house tiles, ornamental tiles, ridges, hips and finials. Mathematical tiles, made in all colours and in sanded, rubbed or glazed finishes, form a large part of the restoration output. Sussex Terracotta floor tiles, encaustic floor tiles, glazed wall tiles, brick specials and imperial-size bricks are also produced.
