The Iron Works Patterned Hit & Miss Vent in Polished Lacquered is a decorative ventilation grille produced in the classic interlocking foliate pattern of Victorian ironwork, finished to a bright polished surface and sealed with a clear lacquer to preserve the sheen. The result is a grille that catches light and reads as a deliberate architectural detail rather than a utilitarian fitting — appropriate where the building’s ironwork is polished and the ventilation grille is expected to match.
The grille operates as a true hit and miss vent: a sliding plate on the reverse moves across the apertures to open or close airflow without removing the grille. The foliate face pattern — an interlocking arrangement of stylised leaf and stem forms characteristic of Victorian decorative ironwork — sits within a flat outer frame with integral fixing holes for face or flush mounting. Available in two sizes: 225mm × 82mm (single-course format) and 225mm × 150mm (double-course format). The polished lacquered finish is applied over the cast iron substrate and sealed to resist tarnishing.
This finish is best suited to interiors and sheltered external locations where the decorative quality of the grille is the primary specification requirement — entrance halls, reception rooms, vestibules, and other spaces where Victorian polished ironwork is part of the architectural character. It is also appropriate for listed buildings and conservation area properties where existing polished metalwork grilles are being replaced in kind, and where a painted or antique finish would not replicate the original specification.

Satin chrome has a brushed, low-sheen finish suited to contemporary interiors, while polished chrome has a bright mirror finish. Both are available in the telescopic hand winder range at Tuscan Foundry. The choice typically depends on the existing ironmongery specification.
Size selection depends on the distance between the mounting point and the rooflight frame, and the desired throw (opening distance). Our telescopic openers are available in 150mm, 250mm, and 300mm; the screw-jack stay is available in 300mm with a 250mm throw. For guidance on sizing for your specific rooflight, please call 0333 987 4452 or use the contact form.
Our cast iron airbricks are available in three standard sizes: 225mm × 75mm (single course), 225mm × 150mm (double course), and 225mm × 225mm (square format). These correspond to the standard airbrick positions used in Victorian and Edwardian brickwork. Each size is available across the School Board, Louvre, and Ornamental pattern ranges.
Yes. Polished brass ironmongery is historically appropriate for period buildings and is generally acceptable to conservation officers for listed building projects. If you require confirmation for your specific scheme, we are happy to advise — call 0333 987 4452.
Yes. The polished chrome telescopic rooflight hand winder opener is compatible with Lumen Rooflights and most timber-framed skylights. Call 0333 987 4452 to confirm compatibility with a specific rooflight model.
The louvre face provides directional airflow and offers some resistance to driven rain entering the subfloor void, making it a practical choice for exposed elevations or properties in areas with significant prevailing wind and rainfall. The square-grid (school board) pattern offers a larger open ventilation area but less weather protection.
A corner hopper head collects rainwater from two gutters running at right angles and channels it into a single downpipe. They are typically required at internal roof valleys, on hipped roofs, and wherever two runs of gutter converge at a corner. The Regent H1A is designed specifically for this application and is sized to suit the most common gutter profiles.
The Strayton H42A accepts round, square, and rectangular pipe connections. Round: 65mm, 75mm, and 100mm. Square: 75×75mm, 100×100mm, and 125×125mm. Rectangular: 100×75mm, 125×100mm, and 150×100mm. Please specify your required connection size when ordering.
The Antique Black cast iron version is suitable for external use. The Polished Lacquered version is best suited to interiors or sheltered external locations where the polished finish will be protected from weathering. The Polished Brass version is suited to interior and semi-exposed locations. For external applications on exposed elevations, the Antique Black finish is the recommended specification.
