The Iron Works Patterned Hit & Miss Vent in Antique Black is a decorative cast iron ventilation grille produced in the classic interlocking foliate pattern of Victorian ironwork, finished in an antique black coating that reads as period ironwork at a glance. The combination of decorative surface pattern and functional airflow control makes this one of the more versatile ventilation products available for heritage and listed building applications.
The grille operates as a true hit and miss vent: a sliding plate on the reverse moves across the apertures to open or close airflow as required, allowing ventilation to be regulated without removing or replacing the grille. The face presents the interlocking foliate pattern — a repeating arrangement of stylised leaf and stem forms common to Victorian decorative ironwork — within a flat outer frame with integral fixing holes for face or flush mounting. Available in two sizes: 225mm × 82mm (single-course format) and 225mm × 150mm (double-course format).
The Antique Black finish is the most versatile of the three available finishes and the most appropriate choice for the majority of heritage applications — cast iron ironwork in Victorian and Edwardian buildings was almost universally blackened, and the antique finish replicates this without the high gloss of a painted surface. It is the correct specification for listed buildings, conservation area properties, churches, and any building where period authenticity in the ironwork is required.

Yes. Cast iron airbricks are frequently specified for listed buildings and conservation area properties precisely because they replicate the material and pattern of the original Victorian and Edwardian ventilation grilles. Local conservation officers and building control typically accept like-for-like cast iron replacements without objection. We can provide product specifications and material datasheets to support applications.
Prices are shown on each product page for both sizes and all three finishes. For project quantities, specification support, or conservation enquiries, call us on 0333 987 4452 or use the contact form on our website.
Our bespoke rise and fall gutter brackets — including fascia, side rafter, and top rafter variants for Osma Roofline and Osma SuperLine systems — are manufactured to order. The standard lead time is 10–14 working days from receipt of a confirmed order. If you have a programme deadline, please call us on 0333 987 4452 and we will advise on current availability.
The polished chrome telescopic rooflight hand winder is suited to contemporary, Georgian-revival, and high-specification interiors where a bright chrome finish is required to complement existing ironmongery. It is compatible with Lumen Rooflights and timber-framed skylights.
Yes. All our mild steel brackets are supplied in either silver or black zinc plate. This coating protects the metal however, both will need painting prior to installation.
We have chosen to use zinc plating for two reasons; firstly that it is a more environmentally friendly than galvanising and secondly that it does not block up the threaded part of the rise and fall cups in the way that galvanising does.
All of our cast iron radiators are availbale as standard with a 1/2″ BSP (15mm) connection. We are though also able to supply many of our radiators and valves with 3/4″ BSP connections. Due to the size proportions of some radiators and valves 3/4″ connections may be more suitable.
Yes. Polished brass is a historically appropriate finish for period and listed buildings and is generally acceptable to conservation officers. If your project requires specific confirmation, we are happy to advise — call 0333 987 4452.
The Polished Brass finish suits buildings where brass metalwork was standard — formal Victorian terrace housing, civic and institutional buildings, and high-quality estate architecture. It is appropriate on listed buildings and conservation properties where the wider ironmongery specification is in brass and a matching material is required.
