This page (together with the documents expressly referred to on it including our Privacy Policy) tells you information about us and the legal terms and conditions (Terms) on which we sell any of the products (Products) listed on our website (our site) to you. These Terms will apply to any contract between us for the sale of Products to you (Contract). Please read these Terms carefully and make sure that you understand them, before ordering any Products from our site or by telephone. Please note that by ordering any of our Products, you agree to be bound by these Terms and the other documents expressly referred to in it. Please click on the button marked “I Accept” at the end of these Terms if you accept them. If you refuse to accept these Terms, you will not be able to order any Products from our site. You should print a copy of these Terms or save them to your computer for future reference. We amend these Terms from time to time as set out in clause 7. Every time you wish to order Products, please check these Terms to ensure you understand the terms which will apply at that time. These Terms updated 01/04/2019 when we changed clauses 2, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 18. These Terms, and any Contract between us, are only in the English language.
1.1 We operate the website www.tuscanfoundry.co.uk. We are Tuscan Foundry Products, and with our office at Tuscan Foundry Products, Unit 1, Tyn-Y-Clyn, Llanafan Fawr, Builth Wells, Powys, LD2 3LU, United Kingdom. Our VAT number is 384788041.
1.2 To contact us, please see our Contact Us page http://www. tuscanfoundry.com/contact
or telephone us on 0333 987 4452 for general information
2.1 The images of the Products on our site are for illustrative purposes only. Although we have made every effort to display the colours accurately, we cannot guarantee that your computer’s display of the colours accurately reflect the colour of the Products. Your Products may vary slightly from those images.
2.2 The packaging of the Products may vary from that shown on images on our site.
2.3 All Products shown on our site are subject to availability. We will inform you by e-mail as soon as possible if the Product you have ordered is not available and we will not process your order if made.
2.4 Please ensure that any bespoke orders made by you clearly set out your requirements and accurate measurements. We cannot accept the return of any bespoke products if the reason for return is because you provided us with incorrect measurements or specifications. However, this will not affect your legal rights as a consumer in relation to bespoke Products that are faulty or not as described. Advice about your legal rights is available at your local Citizen’s Advice Bureau or Trading Standards office.
2.5 Any bespoke Products ordered by you are outside our normal specification of Products and as such we may incur additional design, materials and manufacturing fees or costs. If you choose to cancel your order at any time and we have already started work on your order we will either invoice you, or where a deposit has been paid make a deduction from the deposit, in respect of any fees and costs reasonably incurred by us at that time.
2.6 Any bespoke pattern created by us, unless specifically requested by the customer at the time of order, remains the property of Tuscan Foundry Products.
2.7 For cast iron products specifically; casting is an imperfect process and the surface finish will never be completely smooth and free of blemishes. The beauty and aesthetic appeal of cast iron is in its imperfections. It is also possible that some castings may have small pinholes that will require on-site filling before installation. Please consider that this is a heritage product. Your product will though be manufactured to a high standard.
2.8 Paints & Finishes
Primer Finishes
Primer-finished gutters and pipes are supplied with one coat of protective grey primer. This primer will protect against corrosion during transportation and short-term undercover storage, providing a suitable surface for primer coating and final painting. On-site handling and painting are the reasonability of the contractor, and particular environmental considerations should be taken into account when choosing the paint system for the final finishing. We recommend that an additional priming coat be applied on-site, followed by 1 undercoat and 2 gloss coats of an alkyd paint system. All individual elements should receive the first of the gloss coats before fixing, and finished with the final gloss coat after the installation is Complete.
Factory Paint Finishes
The black-painted products have an exterior coating, high solids, and a black gloss paint finish. High solids and a gloss finish ensure greater durability over lower solids and matt/satin finishes. The paint application is carried out in a controlled environment located on-site. All black-painted products arrive individually bagged for maximum protection and are ready for immediate installation. We also offer and recommend purchasing touch-up paint with all painted orders; this can be applied to installation scuffs, scratches or cut ends. This paint specification finish meets a C3 corrosion category environment.
Bespoke Paint Finishes
We can offer bespoke paint finishes using various types of paints, including bitumenised and linseed oil. However, it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the paint finish is suitable for the geographical and environmental location of the products they are using.
Coastal Paint Finishes
Coastal paint specification can be offered on all rainwater products and the Heritage Express (TX) soil system. Black painted or RAL and BS colours are also available to this specification.
Coastal and Marine environments are difficult to define; however, for guidance, they are estimated to be areas within 5km (approximately 3 miles) of the coast. Areas falling within a coastal or marine environment are classified as a C4 corrosion category.
The durability of paint systems is not an exact science; neither is the predictability of atmospheric conditions to which a product will be exposed. For this reason, we cannot be specific regarding the number of years the paint will last. To combat this aggressive environment, the overall coating thickness on the Coastal products is much greater. This increased coating thickness forms a longer-lasting barrier between the environment and the substrate thus delaying the onset of corrosion.
Aftercare
Aftercare of cast iron guttering and pipes, especially in coastal or marine environments, requires regular maintenance to prevent corrosion from salt air exposure. The key to this is ensuring the paint finish remains intact, as it acts as a protective barrier. Inspect and repaint gutters and pipes every 5-7 years or sooner if signs of wear, rust, or peeling paint appear. Use high-quality, weather-resistant, marine-grade paints for enhanced durability. Clean surfaces regularly to remove salt deposits, and apply anti-corrosion treatments where necessary. More frequent maintenance is vital in marine locations due to the harsher conditions caused by salty moisture and high humidity.

8.1 If you are a consumer, you have a legal right to cancel a Contract under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 during the period set out below in clause 8.3. This means that during the relevant period if you change your mind or decide for any other reason that you do not want to receive or keep a Product, you can notify us of your decision to cancel the Contract and receive a refund. Advice about your legal right to cancel the Contract is available from your local
Citizens’ Advice Bureau or Trading Standards office.
8.2 However, this cancellation right does not apply in the case of any bespoke, made-to-measure or custom-made products. Your Contract is for either of the following:• one Product which is delivered in instalments on separate days.• multiple Products which are delivered on separate days | The end date is 14 days after the day on which you receive the last instalment of the Product or the last of the separate Products ordered.Example: if we provide you with an Order Confirmation on 1 January and you receive the first instalment of your Product or the first of your separate Products on 10 January and the last instalment or last separate Product on 15 January you may cancel in respect of all instalments and any or all of the separate Products at any time between 1 January and the end of the day on 29 January. |

8.5 If you cancel your Contract we will:
(a) refund you the price you paid for the Products. However, please note we are permitted by law to reduce your refund to reflect any reduction in the value of the goods, if this has been caused by your handling them in a way which would not be permitted in a shop. .
(b) refund any delivery costs you have paid, although, as permitted by law, the maximum refund will be the costs of delivery by the least expensive delivery method we offer (provided that this is a common and generally acceptable method). You can either send it back, return it to us in-store or hand it to our authorised carrier. Please see our Website for our returns address;
(b) unless the Product is faulty or not as described , you will be responsible for the cost of returning the Products to us.

As a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to Products that are faulty or not as described. These legal rights are not affected by your right of return and refund in this clause 8 or anything else in these Terms.

This clause 9 only applies if you are a business.

A deep dive into the history, common issues, and maintenance of cast iron rainwater goods, with a focus on traditional Scottish architecture; cast iron rainwater goods have been a staple of Scottish architecture for centuries, prized for their durability, strength, and aesthetic appeal. These qualities are particularly important in Scotland, where the weather can be harsh and unforgiving. They are a testament to the craftsmanship and ingenuity of a bygone era, adding a touch of elegance and historical significance to buildings across the country.
Cast iron’s journey in Scottish architecture began in the 18th century. Its resilience and ability to withstand the challenging Scottish climate quickly gained popularity. The relatively low production cost of cast iron made it a popular choice for residential and commercial buildings, contributing to its widespread adoption.
The 19th century marked the pinnacle of cast iron rainwater goods in Scotland. This era saw the construction of magnificent Victorian buildings adorned with elaborate cast-iron rainwater systems, showcasing decorative hoppers, rhones (the Scottish term for gutters), and leader heads (downpipes). These features served a practical purpose, channelling rainwater away from the building and enhancing the architectural beauty of the structures.
