To meet the requirements, the architects specified the Tuscan Foundry plain half-round cast iron gutter for this refurbished bungalow refurbishment in Dorset. Cast iron gutters have high eco credentials with I’s longevity and the ability to be easily recycled and were felt to be the most sympathetic rainwater system to use on this project.
Could cast iron gutters and pipes work in this Dorset location, close to the sea? This was one of the questions asked by the homeowner, with the proximity to the sea ( 1.5 miles). However, as with most situations, a solution was found in the form of our coastal paint finish, that with regular maintenance, will provide the longevity the client requires.
Due to winds in coastal locations, it was also decided that the increased weight of cast iron guttering also offered a benefit, to the installation.
The plain deep half-round system ensured an architecturally sympathetic appearance was achieved in the shortest time possible and without the compromise of a plastic rainwater system. Adding a finishing touch to this remodeled post-war house.
This 1950s post-war bungalow in Bournemouth was completely transformed through the careful specification of authentic design solutions – including the half-round cast iron rainwater system – ensuring the architectural detail was maintained and enhanced throughout.
Originally built on a vacant lot and surrounded by older inter-war period houses, the choice of materials was a key consideration in achieving the architecturally significant appearance of this extended property, ensuring the completed home is in synergy with the architecture of the road.
The authentic styling perfectly complemented surrounding materials, both old and new, to provide the perfect rainwater solution in the remodeling of this post-war home to combine historical ‘arts and crafts aesthetics with exceptional performance.
